Rescued 08/09

He is loveable, terrific with kids. Short in stature, about 25" high, but still 90 lbs.
From the Foster (and eventually adoptive) Mom:
Day 3 and all is well! We discovered today that Schultzie actually CAN run (at least if there are kittens that need chasing). He's not particularly fleet of paw but it's definitely running. Made his appt. for the vet. I'll take him Friday for an appt. with Dr. Granada at the Animal Clinic of Millville. Must have been a new clerk at the desk because she had no idea what a Leonberger was. Most of the gang only know Bernie and Grendel as they are their only Leo patients...and quite the celebs there. Just want him to get a once over, have the vet check his sores...which seem to be healing well and have his stools checked. Also need to procure some Interceptor and flea/tick drops for him. Mostly what I want is the vet's ok to groom this little furball post vaccinations. Boy, I cannot wait to wash him. he told off our younger pup today but the young one needed it. It wasn't vicious or anything. Just the "I'm warning you snarl/bark". My guys went tearing through the house earlier this evening to scare off imaginary intruders...or perhaps a groundhog...and Schultzie went with them as back-up. I thought it was a good sign that he felt the need to join them in protecting us. Anyway, when it was time for the kids to go to bed tonight...he went, too. Did the same thing last night...followed them to bed. He is funny. The few times he actually gets motivated enough to want some love, he presents his butt to you. He's a fool for a butt scratch. |
