Update 7/16/2009
Hello fellow Leonberger lovers. All is well in the household. Regretfully we suffered a loss earlier this summer when our cat of 9 years finally lost his battle with cancer. We all took the loss hard especially our other cat and Koko Bean. Koko Bean slept in our closet on top of the cat's old bed. So last weekend we adopted a kitten from the human society. I laughed when the woman at the human society asked me if my 90 pound Leonberger would be okay with the new kitten. I tried to explain how she would not only be okay with the new kitten but act as his nanny. She LOVES her new kitten and seems to be honestly hurt when he hisses at her randomly. I attached a picture of her with her kitten cuttled up next to her which is his favorite place to sleep. . Best wishes, Bill, Lindsey, Koko Bean, Mara, Loki, and TBD. |

Koko Bean is doing great! She is up to a solid 85 lbs and has lots of new found muscle and extra energy. She has grown in a healthy beautiful coat and has really grown a beautiful Leonberger black mask. She has grown a couple extra inches and grown into her body. She has become a gorgeous dog and is constantly admired at the dog park. Her rehabilitation has been gradual but overall successful. She is still cautious of some men and big groups of people. Her water/walking therapy for her leg as well as a specialized diet and extra supplements of Glucosomine has shown great improvements. She uses her leg all the time and has actually grown quiet a bit of muscle and movement with it. The vet still wants to keep a close eye on it as she gets older for arthritis. She has really developed quite the personality, she actually quite full of it. She still LOVES to play and get into mischief. She loves to cuddle and thinks that if she keeps all four paws on the floor then she "technically" is not sitting on the couch. We have had to create a special container for the recyclables because she would shop through them and help herself to empty containers to chew on. She loves to help load the dishwasher and if not watched carefully takes plates and such through the dog door to the back yard. She is quite the riot. She likes to bark and occasionally play with the neighbors' dogs. We make sure to make lots of trips with her and Mara to my parents so they can play with Griz, their Leonberger, who is now by the way 130lbs of pure Leonberger puppy love. Although Koko Bean does not look exactly like a purebred Leonberger she DEFIANTLY acts like one. Koko Bean and Mara love their almost weekly hikes up in the mountains and LOVE when we go snow shoeing, I'll send you some great pictures of the last time we went. Koko Bean LOVES the snow and tries to bury herself under it whenever possible. She will be sad when winter is over but will be excited when she gets to do her other passions of swimming, camping, and even more hiking this summer. Mara loves her sister and the two have never been separated since we brought home Koko Bean almost a year ago. My parents want to take Koko Bean and Griz out to the Leonberger convention this Spring and although she LOVES Griz as well as Grandma and Grandpa...Bill, Mara, her cats, and I don't know if we can spend a week away from her. Well I could go on for hours about my Leonberger but I will save you the time and just let you know that she is beginning loved with everything in us and giving as much love right back to us. She is happy and healthy. She is with her true family never to be unappreciated, unloved, or abandoned again. We cannot thank you enough for helping us find her.
